Altar and Albuquerque

New Mexico, November 2024

“We are asked to choose which world we want to live in—a world of retributive justice or a world of forgiveness. We can’t operate in both orders."
— Melissa Florer-Bixler

I look forward to meeting those attending The 72nd Convention of the Diocese of the Rio Grande in Cathedral of St. John in Albuquerque, New Mexico, November 8th and 9th, 2024.

I will be attending in my role as Bishop’s Warden and member of the Altar Guild of St. James’ Episcopal Church. This is my first time attending a Diocesan Convention.

The Cathedral of St. John was designed by John Gaw Meem, New Mexico’s great 20th century architect, synonymous with Santa Fe style. My presentations on Sacred Art include surveys of architecture, and I’m always surprised by participants’ energetic response to the topic of ritual and worship spaces.

What a pleasure to get the opportunity to serve in and experience the Cathedral built in Santa Fe-style formality, and look around at New Mexico’s large government buildings from the 1930s!

The trust in circumstances and people who placed me here is acknowledged, appreciated, and strengthening. Please reach out to me if we should meet at the convention.
