Dark Sky Reserve

Letter from Big Bend

Walking home in an International Dark Sky Reserve. There are just a few in the world. I have spent almost a decade in the world’s largest: roughly 9 million acres spanning the U.S. and Mexico.

Reserves are a tricky concept because they pull you into a fragmented philosophy of care for the future. In other words, a world segmented into spaces where different rules apply.
