Facilitation

Facilitation

Facilitation can be viewed as a web of elements. It involves conviction in the wisdom and creativity of individuals, alongside a search for synergy and shared objectives. It reflects a fundamental belief in the collective expertise of people and respect for individual perspectives.

Facilitation objectives might include designing principles, mission and vision clarity, getting clear on desired outcomes, figuring out process, creative reframing, or coming to agreements.

If people aren’t participating in answering their own needs, implementation will be anemic or might fail, and decisions misunderstood.

My perspective is that groups are sources of expertise and knowledge, and not problems to be solved. I don’t prescribe answers — rather I guide others to do their best thinking and help them recognize the significance of the issues.

Upon closure I produce documentation and accompanying artifacts.

About Kendra

I’m glad you’re here. I built my consultancy because I saw a need for people who are navigating complex systems and pursuing projects that matter to them to widen their foresight, deepen understanding, and better connect perception with action.

My work allows me to get involved in almost every kind of field, working in different cultures, and opening up long-term connections. I have hands-on experience in foresight, scenario building, collaborative negotiation, program design, conflict analysis, communication in fragile states, facilitation, design thinking, creative inquiry, alternative futures, art, invention, and complex systems. I also speak, write, and teach.

  • I have helped lead or serve on projects for The United States Man and the Biosphere Program, Apple, NASA Artemis Mission Moon Tree Program, The United Nations, US.-Mexico Borderlands Coalitions, Big Bend Episcopal Mission, The International Leadership Association, Ballroom Marfa, MFAH, The Menil Collection, and others.

Currently I consult for an American refugee resettlement agency that finds durable ways forward for people who have fled their home due to persecution, conflict, or genocide.

A graduate of Royal Roads University’s Master of Leadership program, I previously worked for a decade in Strategic Operations and Logistics for Apple, Inc., reporting to VPs, where I engaged in the launches of society-shifting technology, including the first iPhone and expansion in Latin America. I’ve co-founded startups that failed and some that were successful. My work has been recognized in Chronicle Books, Wired, Odou, Palladium, Soundscreen Design, The Poster Institute, The Institute for Art and Olfaction, and by SXSW.

I have deep interest in emerging futures and what might be called the bigger questions. I’m pursuing a master’s in Philosophy and Theology, drawing from the belief that how we make meaning drives behavior, and creates conditions for transforming many of our personal and collective challenges, while understanding the practical tension of systems oriented to hoarding power.

I trained in Strategic Foresight through University of Houston and earned my grad diploma in Innovation and Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I try to stay curious, critical, and creative and draw on my education in art and design through Alberta University of the Arts, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and Accademia Italiana in Florence. My first training in leadership was at age 15 during extended outdoor expeditions in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

I split time between the quiet high Chihuahuan Desert and a full schedule traveling to work with people. I am an active board member of Leadership Big Bend, in Texas. When I’m not working, I love desert running, art and film, time with friends, listening to music, and following independent journalism from around the world.

I look forward to meeting you!
