Foresight for Leaders

$605.00

Private Individual Consulting

Of all the dimensions of leading ourselves and others, how we think about the future might have the greatest potential for calamity, misunderstanding, transformation, and profoundly positive impact.

How we think about the future drives our behavior.

Neglecting serious reflection on what is coming next, in an unpredictable world, will lead us deep into confusion at an unnecessarily hight cost. We might gently, but with some urgency, ask ourselves why should anyone follow our lead? What’s coming?

In personalized sessions I advise you on methods for foresight and futures-thinking, through the lens of leading yourself and others. Learn to apply these tools to your own life and shape how you are serving, working with, or guiding others.

Description

Welcome. In the time we have together, we explore some of the most generative ways of thinking about the future, linking the wisdom of your goals and the art of your decision-making. Revisit enduring principles and learn to apply new methods in your own life, and in relation with others.

Foresight for Leaders is a series of one-on-one individual leadership consulting sessions. We explore scenarios, speculative paths, and strategic foresight with thoughtful and reflective prompts for developing how you lead, at any level.

We focus on your specific circumstances, aspirations, and needs in a strictly confidential space. If it's affecting your confidence, it's worth talking about.

Going beyond merely inventing a vision statement, sessions are an invitation to get to the heart of how you’re thinking about the future. Surface-level statements and fears about the future are widespread. Yet evolving, challenging — and dropping inherited or brittle thinking — is often neglected in our own lives.

Letting go of habitual thinking is helped by exploring alternative frameworks, which you will keep as useful tools long after we meet. Yet frameworks are never enough. One-on-one sessions are a chance to build trust, and discuss your concerns about your place in the ways things are changing.

Often our decision-making says much about our culture and philosophy. How we think and talk about the future greatly influences planning, ambition, ethics, options, influence, attitudes, behaviors, and risk. I work with you to examine your unique circumstances and breath new life into your practice.

Whether you are new to foresight, futures-thinking, and horizon scanning, or have been engaging with these approaches for years, I hope Foresight for Leaders moves you to think and act from a deeper wisdom, energizes your outlook in a way that is noticeable to others, and helps you experience peace and power that comes from separating fear from your future.

Decision makers in any field and working at all levels can gain insight. Even the brightest and most aware people have been helped along the way.

Objectives

  • Incorporate new research on futures-thinking into your leadership practice by challenging and reflecting in a private consultation. Get practical and well-tested resources. Equip yourself and be able to share insights with your group.

  • See situations, group politics, yourself, and others in new ways — allowing you to move past temporary obstacles, sharpen your vision, and confidently cooperate with what’s ahead.

  • Improve your leadership by diving into what’s projected, plausible, and possible. Get methods to help you avoid rigid thinking and reactive behaviors.

  • Freely and openly discuss obstacles and ambition with a trusted, uniquely qualified consultant who has no conflicting agenda. I work behind the scenes on your behalf, both analytical and empathetic.

Impact

Clients come to this for many reasons. They might have used others as a sounding board and been hurt by broken trust. Coaches may not have necessary comprehension of complex systems. Counsellors, though skilled at supporting wellbeing, may not be examining trends and new signals of change. Even experts can have conflicting loyalties.

Many find consulting sessions useful for identifying and changing unhealthy ways of working, while others seek to improve how they serve or lead others. Still others may be juggling competing priorities, nurturing side-projects, being perceived unfairly, or trying to make their way when things feel unforgiving.

In my experience, reflecting on and developing a personal philosophy about future change is one of the most transformational and impactful dimensions of leading self and others.

Scheduling

I contact you within one business day to schedule your first appointment after you book online and find a time that works. We will meet over Zoom or use similar software with details provided by email before we meet. You will receive a pre-meeting form to fill out that helps me understand your goals and challenges. Give yourself about 15 to 30 minutes on this, so our time together can be well spent.

Accessibility and Materials

Please have suitable internet connection for video meeting online. Accommodations for accessibility will be confirmed over email.

Details

Foresight for Leaders is a short and high impact series of one-on-one individual leadership consulting sessions, starting with a needs assessment over email, then a 60 minute video or phone meeting. Detailed notes and a clear plan for implementing what we discuss are provided by email, along with resources that we’ve discussed. We then meet for a 45-60 minute follow up conversation to assess how you’re doing, course correct if needed, and reflect on successful change and potential long-term impact.

  • Our work is conducted in English.

  • There are no pre-requisites to meet. Decision makers at all levels and in any field will benefit. Consultation is tailored to your situation.

Clients will benefit by scheduling the follow-up call within about four weeks from when we meet. A discount for further collaboration and access to other programs will be shared with you.

Financial Assistance

To get financial help, fill out the online form at least one week before you want to start. Please do not book online until I’ve had a chance to process your request and get back to you.

Further Collaboration

Depending on your specific needs I may suggest supplemental articles, media, and resources. Moving forward will be helped by exploring foresight technique, critical and curious discussions, journaling, reflective practice, and working with others.

Further collaboration is an option. I can work with you through delivery of a complicated project, for example, or in periods of rapid, extensive, and stressful change. Extended time together is available.

About Kendra

I’m glad you’re here. I built my consultancy because I saw a need for people who are navigating complex systems and pursuing projects that matter to them to widen their foresight, deepen understanding, and better connect perception with action.

My work allows me to get involved in almost every kind of field, working in different cultures, and opening up long-term connections. I have hands-on experience in foresight, scenario building, collaborative negotiation, program design, conflict analysis, communication in fragile states, facilitation, design thinking, creative inquiry, alternative futures, art, invention, and complex systems. I also speak, write, and teach.

  • I have helped lead or serve on projects for The United States Man and the Biosphere Program, Apple, NASA Artemis Mission Moon Tree Program, The United Nations, US.-Mexico Borderlands Coalitions, The International Leadership Association, Ballroom Marfa, MFAH, The Menil Collection, and various arts organizations.

Currently I consult for an American refugee resettlement agency that finds durable ways forward for people who have fled their home due to persecution, conflict, or genocide.

A graduate of Royal Roads University’s Master of Leadership program, I previously worked for a decade in Strategic Operations and Logistics for Apple, Inc., reporting to VPs, where I engaged in the launches of society-shifting technology, including the first iPhone and expansion in Latin America. I’ve co-founded startups that failed and some that were successful. My work has been recognized in Chronicle Books, Wired, Palladium, Soundscreen Design, and by SXSW.

I have deep interest in emerging futures and what might be called the bigger questions. I’m pursuing a master’s in Philosophy and Theology, drawing from the belief that how we make meaning drives behavior, and creates conditions for transforming many of our personal and collective challenges, while understanding the practical tension of systems oriented to hoarding power.

I trained in Strategic Foresight through University of Houston and earned my grad diploma in Innovation and Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. I try to stay curious, critical, and creative and draw on my education in art and design through Alberta University of the Arts, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and Accademia Italiana in Florence. My first training in leadership was at age 15 during extended outdoor expeditions in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

I split time between the quiet high Chihuahuan Desert and a full schedule traveling to work with people. When I’m not working, I love desert running, art and film, time with friends, listening to music, and following independent journalism from around the world.

I look forward to meeting you!
